Thank you. They were bought between 97 and 99 while living in the the US. ETrade transferred them to Canada in 2002. We had some stock that we paid deemed disposition taxes to the Cdn gov't when we became non resident at the end of 2006. We sold those stocks in the US in 2007.

SSN for those with TD visa?
I was told that one needed to have work authorization in order to get a SSN, but the DMV office told me that had been changed and I needed to get an SSN. Are spouses with TD allowed to get an SSN?

Thanks If I did move back to Canada with the kids; and we flew down to visit him, the costs of 4 flights vs 1 could be less than taxes he might have to start paying in Canada. How does one determine whether he would have to start filing Canadian again? We disposed of all our assets, except a bank ac...

Canadian working in US while Spouse/Kids live in Canada
My husband has a job lined up in California.
If I move back to Canada with the kids and he commutes up on weekends, is the idea that he would have to file US taxes and Canadian taxes and I would file only Canadian taxes?
Would he be considered non-resident or Canadian resident?

Some states like NJ, NY, OR allow for exchange of dl. You can turn in your Canadian one, have your photo taken and get one for that state. Other states you have to take the written and/or road test to get a new licence. I don't know about MI, but WA requires written and road test. We mailed Ontario ...

Can US stocks be transferred to the US or must they be sold?
We have some US stocks that were transferred up to Canada by an online brokerage a few years ago without our permission.
Now that we are living in the US, can they be transferred to the US? or do they need to be sold first? We paid deemed disposition tax on them.

My husband got a permanent job and we moved down to the US on TN and TD visas in Dec. We leased a house with a 12 month lease, listed our house in January and sold it. We filed a T2062 for the house sale and a certificate of compliance was issued. We bought a car in the US and have a Jeep that we ar...
