Canadian on TN-Visa moved back to Canada

Post by Abi »

I have read some posts but I did not find anyone in my situation. I went to US on TN Visa in Jun 2012 and filed 1040EZ as a non-resident alien as well as filed NY State taxes (I also filed Canadian tax for Jan-May 2012). I returned back to Canada in June 2013 because I found a job in Alberta. I am confused how to file 2013 tax for US.

I am using FreetaxUSA to file my US tax online but it's asking me this:

Was New York your state of residence on December 31, 2013?

If I say NO I can't proceed further unless I provide another state as an option (No option for Canada). So the question is that how to fill state taxes for Jan-May 2013 of US?

Do you have any other option of filing taxes from Canada? Do I need to show the US income in Canada when I am filing 2013 taxes for Canada?

Please advise,Thanks!
