Canadian in USt - TN status, childcare expences, moving cost

Post by emka »

We are Canadians on TN/TD status first year in US (husband since march 2012, wife and kids since August 2012).
Since we wil have to fill both US and Canadian return we are not sure where we should file our childcare expences (summer camps, sport activities), and our moving cost. Should we use it in US, or Canadian file?

any deduction can be used on both returns, provided that the expense is a deduction according to the rules of each tax system.

Remebr: you have left Canada, so should be filing a departure return for Canada.

Mving expenses can only be filed on US return.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
