Child care and early child education expenses

Post by Alex »

My wife and I plan to claim the following child care/educational expenses on our Canadian taxes.

1. Canadian nanny
2. Day care
3. Music lessons
4. Swimming lessons

All expense were incurred in Canada for our son under the age of 3. Could any of these be useful for our US taxes (1040)? Are they even worth mentioning to our US accountant?

Since you surely won't be owing any US tax, don't bother.

Child care and nanny expenses *might* be deductible, except that the persons recieving these funds do not meet the IRS criteria, and you would both have to be working. The other things aren't.

Again, why bother?
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
