Bone Fida Resident.

Post by Studentincanada »

Another Question for you all (thanks in advance, again),

I have been in canada since 2003. From 2003-2011 on a student study permit for graduate school and from 2011-2013 on a work visa. I have a house and am married with two kids. If I claim bone fida residence in order to get the FEIE at what point can I call my self a bona fide resident? As soon as I entered Canada? I need to file back taxes

Cheers,

John

Who was paying you from 2003 to 2011? If it was a Cdn university, you should have been reporting in Canada all along. Please be more precise in your questions, when you say "filing taxes": Waht taxes?

You should always have been reporting in US too, regardless.

You were a bonefide resident since 2004, and probabaly met the PPT at the same time.

BUT You will likely want to use 1116 instead of 2555 because of child tax credit. See your post on child tax credit.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
