Applying for SSN to file past tax returns

Post by triunbad »

Can somebody file past tax returns without a SSN, or should they send in the application for the SSN, wait for the SSN to be accepted, and then file their returns. Is an application for ITIN sufficient if the person is considering renouncing?

An SSN cab be gotten in 3 weeks. An application for ITIN cna take months, and I *believe* requesting an ITIN when eligible for an SSN will be denied.

Get your SSN.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
