form 1040x for 8891

Post by g3kamdbs »

I am trying to amend previous returns to correct some calculation mistake in the year end balance of form 8891. My question is do i have to fill out all the part I information even if there is no change in any of the numbers? Can I just use Part II and explain that I need to amend 8891?

Thanks

I wouldn't bother to correct the 8891, unless you left it blank. Just put the right value next year. there is nothing that is calculted based on that value, it is simply a reporting mechanism.

But, in general, if you are filing 1040-X just to correct something other than income, deduction, or credit, simply submit a 1040-X ,mention what you are submitting it for "..... xxx purpose and no income, deduction, or credit is beinga amended", and leave all the other lines blank.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
