My husband is living in US on H1B, I am a Canadian citizen, working in Toronto, we married in Aug. Husband is earning twice than me, and he is going to file as married file jointly.
How should I file in Canada, husband does not live in Cnd, and no income.
we basically want to avoid husband pay canadian tax because we assume Canada has higher tax than US.
Thanks!

he files in US, jointly with you. That means your bothe report ALL income on that 1040 from everywhere.
You file in canada as married, but report no income from him and take no deduction for him.
The Cdn tax you calculate can be used on the US return as a credit on form 1116.

After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
