expired Green Card, wanting to renew

Post by weiss »

Hi there,

I apologize for posting this on here but ever since grasmick's board site has been down, I haven't figured out where else to ask the following question:

I have lived in Canada all my life but in 1990 my family and I received Green Cards to the US. My family ended up choosing to live in Canada and I was too young at the time to move to the US on my own. Im 26 and would like to move to the US now and work. My green card has since expired in 2000 and I would like to know if possible, how I can renew/reactivate it even though I have lived in canada all this time. I also have a social security card for the states. What would be the best recommended solution in this matter? Your advice is greatly appreciated

you can't. you must start from scratch wit a new sponsor.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best

.. by the way, you Green card status probably expired a few months after getting it (in 1990), because you did not go and live in US. The 'expiry' date on the card is merely guidance to get a new card and does not confer status.
