collecting social security

Post by brianbbc »

I was informed by a "tax expert" that while living as a Canadian tax resident, only US citizens and resident aliens are eligible to collect social security benefits and non-residents are not eligible. As a Cdn citizen worked for 20+ years on TN in the USA, have a SSN and paid into SS all those working years in the US. Not a green card holder or US citizen . By retiring in Canada does that mean I am not eligible to collect SS?

Ignore anything this expert tells you.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
