This is our main tax information forum which deals with topics concerning Canadians living and working in the U.S., U.S. citizens contemplating working in Canada, and all aspects of Canadian and U.S. income tax and related adminstrative issues.
I will be moving back to Canada from the US this June. I am wondering what are the implications regarding establishing Canadian residency should I buy a house (or put in an offer) before I actually return. That is can I go on a house hunting trip in May and not incur adverse tax consequences in Canada regarding establishing residential ties?
Provided you continue to live in US until you move, the day you actually move wil be your Cdn tax residency starting date.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
