Dual Citizen with long visiting stay in Canada

Post by flagueux »

Both my wife and I have dual citizenship (US and Canada). We both work in the US for a US employer and our primary residency is in the US. We bought a cottage in Canada. How long can we stay in Canada without being considered a Canadian resident? We only want to fill taxes in the US.

There really isn't a numerical limit. 183 days in a calendar could see you considered a "deemed resident" by CRA. but if by treaty you still have your centre of vital interests in US, then you would still be considered US tax resident.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
