Side income: with TN visa

Post by tony »

hi there,
I am living in california with TN visa.

I am looking into:
1. youtubers,
2. making apps / monetizing on google apps

If i make money on those,
1. am I allowed to do that?
2. how to pay tax on those side jobs?
3. do i need special visa or anything?
4. Or if not allowed, can i setup a business in the US (while a TN holder)?

thanks

forgot to add, the context on that question above is on the US side, NOT on the canada side.
(I've done with canada and no obligation toward canada).

thanks

to clarify the question is with respect to US obligations NOT canada side .
I've done exit tax so clear from all canadian obligations.

You are only allowed to earn money with one or more TNs. Or COMPLETELY passive income (like rent).

You can only work within the scope of your TN status, which, FYI, is not a VISA. As a Canadian, you are Visa exempt. No YouTube, apps, or setting up a business.

I am curious why you would pay a Canadian "exit tax"? One of the conditions of the TN status is that you maintain ties to Canada, and return to Canada.

Will,
There is no need to maintain any ties to Canada or any other country when on TN. That is for tourists and students. So it is proper to break all residential ties to Canada.

But, again, these are IMMIGRATION issues. There are plenty of other forums for this.
