US tax return for a child
Is there any reason to file a separate US tax return for a 18-years-old child who did not have taxable income? Perhaps some refundable credits?

No

Re: US tax return for a child
yes, there potentially could be.
American residents benefit from claiming children as dependents while Cdn residents often do not. If the adult child of the latter files his/her own 2020 and 2021 1040, the family's overall EIP/additional child tax credit refund amount could exceed the amount had the child stayed on parent's 1040. There are many online articles who weigh this decision even for American residents and college student children back in 2020 1040 filing season. Google away!
