Filing the Statement to be Taxed as A US Resident

Post by Mswalleye2 »

I happened to come across this statement on this forum.... a fellow was asking why Nelsona was suggesting to not file a statement (to treat spouse as resident) with his 1040, and he said

Your spouse is a Cdn citizen/resident, and, as such she is always allowed to file a 1040. So joining you on your 1040 is allowed.

I too am Cdn citizen/resident and was going to submit a statement with this years tax return but am now wondering ... do I need to?

Any info on this would be appreciated. tks

There is no need for the statement. File jointly as residents.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
