CDN Emigrant

Post by vincebouchard »

I all, I moved in the U.S as a permanent resident on Jan 20, 2017 and had revenu from my CDN Employer until that date. I then started a new job and worked in the States the rest of the year. No CDN income. No Canadian ties.
So my question is:
- Am I considered a emigrant or non-resident for CRA for the entire year of 2017?
- Is my 2 weeks work in Canada (still resident) considere as Worldwide income or regular income?
- Do I need to declare the income I made in the U.S for 2017 in my CDN return?

I tried to fill my return with Ufile software and when I declare my date of departure (Jan 20) and include my U.S income after, it was considering my U.S as a foreign income and
increased the amount of tax that I should pay to CRA. Maybe I should not report any U.S made income after my departure since I was not a resident anymore?

1. Emigrant for 2017, with departure date of Jan 20, 2017.
2. Don't know what you mean. It is Cdn-sourced income, which is reported on BOTH your Cdn returns and your US 1040 ,with credit given on your US return for any Cdn tax you might owe.
3. No. Only the 2 weeks of income from January.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
