This is our main tax information forum which deals with topics concerning Canadians living and working in the U.S., U.S. citizens contemplating working in Canada, and all aspects of Canadian and U.S. income tax and related adminstrative issues.
I am a Canadian citizen and Canadian resident working for a large multinational company in Canada. All incomes are in Canadian dollars, paid by the Canadian payroll. My job requires me travelling once in a while to the US headquarters for meetings. However, our company lawyer requires me getting a intermittent L1 visa, which is a work visa.
For tax compliance, should I file a US nonresident tax return?
A little more detail: my business trips to the US would be less than 4 months in total. If I am going to prorate my total Canadian income by the number of days of my US meetings, it will likely be over US$10000.
No.
The $10K doesn't apply here. The only 4 month in US (less than 6) makes it non-reportable.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
