Hello,
I moved in Seattle from Montreal in November 2014 for a 3-year post-doctoral fellow position with a TN visa. Last year I filled a 1040NR since I was in the US less than 2 months.
However, this year, I am confused because I have a dual tax status since I have been in the US for more than 183 days, but in Canada, I have my partner-in-law, a house that I own with most of my furniture and all my bank accounts (checking and savings) in Canada. In the US, I have a lease on an apartment, I have some account and credit card (with RBC bank). I also did my Washington state driver license, but kept my Quebec driver license. This year I only had an US income.
Can you help me with the forms and paperwork I need to submit to both countries. I am happy to work with you if you can help. I already contacted some tax specialist in both countries but none of them are able to do both.
Thank you

You really have a choice for Canada to remain resident, however, by strict treaty interpretation, if you work and live in US and have a place to live (not a hotel) you should be considered non-resident of Canada by treaty, since November 2014.
You are resident of US by sheer number of days in US ,and have to report all income in US

After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
