Working on J1 in USA

Post by M3rc »

Hello All,
My situation is fairly simple but I am not sure what exactly to do. I am a Canadian citizen and I started working in US on J1 since July 2014. I now got my W2 form. Being a non-resident alien in US, do I have to file taxes here in US using 1040-NR? I know a person who is in same situation and files it in Canada. If so, Do i file it in both countries? or just Canada?

Thanks.

Wages earned in US on J status have to be reported in US on 1040NR. You may get a refund.

You must also file in Canada. Canada will credit you with US taxes paid.

You cannot simply file in Canada.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
