Hi,
We are Canadians, family with 2 children living currently in California on TN/TD status.
My husband got a TN status and started to work for a company in New York (temporary location) on March 1st 2012. He was working in Canada before.
Me and children stayed in Canada.
6 months later my husband’s company relocated to permanent location in California and we decided to move the whole family to be together.
I was working in Canada before move. Right now me and kids are in US on TD status, so I don’t work (no work permit)
Leaving Canada we only have bank account left there with some RRSPs, we didn’t own any properties/house etc, so from or perspective we severed our ties with Canada.
We are preparing to file our taxes and trying to find the best way to do it.
Can you please help me to determine how to file the taxes to avoid double taxation by US and Canada? What forms to fill in?
Thank you very much in advance!

Not a complex situation. except for one issue: did your spouse return frequently/regularly to Canada between the time he got the job in NY and the time you and the kids left canada?
This makes a differnce in how he will file for 2012.
Also, when di dyou leave canada? 2012 or 2013?

After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
