TN Visa, Non-resident alien, need help

Post by gary614 »

I'm new to the forum and need some help. I am a retired Canadian citizen doing some consulting work for an American company in Wisconsin. I have a TN Visa. I reside in Winnipeg and make about one, 3 or 4 day trip each month to the company's head office in La Crosse, Wisconsin. In 2012 I made 6 such trips averaging about 3 working days per trip for a total of about 18 working days.

At the end of each trip I submit an invoice to them for my consulting fee plus expenses (travel, meal, accomodation). The company pays me by cheque. No withholding taxes etc.

So, I reside in Canada and pay taxes here. My question is - what are my tax obligations in the USA. Should I be remitting monthly?

Thanks for any help.

Nothing.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best

Thanks for your response. I understand from your reply that I would owe nothing taxes. Would I have to submit any paperwork, even though I owe nothing?

Thanks,

Sorry to be a pest but I don't understand your answer. Would I have to submit paperwork or not? I really appreciate the help!

Sigh. Look back at your first question.
My question is - what are my tax obligations in the USA.
A: Nothing. No obligations. That would include filing. No filing. Nothing to report. Nothing to submit. Nothing to sign.
