I had a new baby born in late 2012. Can I claim her as a dependent on my US or Canadian tax for 2012? (I am USC, CDN resident, with NRA spouse)
If so, will I have to prorate my claims in some way based on when in 2012 she was born?
Also, do I need to obtain Social Security and Social Insurance numbers for her in time for my filings?
Thank you!
Part year dependent?

You can claim a child born anytime in 2012 (or before) on your 2012 tax return in US, and Canada (although canada doesn't have dependant credit.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
I would amend later. You need to get all your other filings in, 8891, fbar etc, so you might as well get that doen now, and just file for the $1000 later.
