got CRA Review

Post by agrisiva »

hello everyone,
today i got a letter in the mail from CRA stating that they are doing a Processing Review on my Canadian return. They wanted to see many documents including my US 1040NR, etc. so that they can verify the following 2 amounts.
1. Foreign Taxes paid
2. Registered pension plan deduction.
I have all the documents saved and will be sending out to them shortly. I am a bit anxious and nervous and don’t know why they picked me. Just wondering if anyone in the same situation or heard about cases like this?

Well, you were supposed to submit both your 1040NR and your W-2 with your tax return. You did not do this, so they are asking for it.

Plain and simple, and nothing to worry about.

Do you still live in canada? If not, you should not be reporting as a Cdn resident.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best

thx Nelsona, as always for your quick response. Unlike last year, I filed my taxes online and didn’t have to attach any documents, so now I will send them. Yes, I still live in Calgary, working full-time remotely for a US university. I am a permanent resident of Canada but do have an H1b petition for my job in the US University.

These CRA Reviews seem to be more common now because so many are netfiling and not submitting information slips. All 3 of my kids were asked for rent receipts the first year they began renting. I've been asked for moving receipts and medical receipts in the past as well. I know of several friends that have had to send something in in the last few years. They just confirm the numbers and send it all back to you in about 4 months. No need to worry or feel targeted.
