E-Filing FBAR

Post by quickcanuck »

I had submitted FBAR forms for previous years last year, and I recently got a letter back to tell me the FBAR forms for some of the older years were outdated, and I should resubmit with the latest form.

The letter suggested I use the BSA E-Filing system rather than use hard copy forms, and I will try and set up a user ID in their system and give it a try. Anyone used this system from Canada, is there any reason why we can't file FBAR's using their E-Filing system?

I considered using the e-filing system, but would rather stick to the old fashioned paper for right now.

My only drawback to the e-file is the unknown. When i say the unknown i am referring to the format in which the treasury dept. has tabulated this system.

My concern is that it does not follow the same format as the form, and will leaving me with more questions on which 'blocks' to fill out.

Since FBAR efile is new...i think it best to wait until they iron all the bugs out.

I used the BSA E-Filing system this year - worked fine - simple and I received a confirmation that I had filed the FBAR. It is basically the same form, very slightly different. Two requirements to use the e-filing are Internet Explorer and the latest version of Adobe Reader.
