filing of 8938 for 2010??

The IRS website states;

"New reporting requirements. For tax years beginning after March 18, 2010, certain individuals must file form 8938"

Ok...bit of a brain (you know what).....but if ones tax year begins Jan 01 2010 to December 31 2010....one would only need to file the 8938 for 2011?...correct?

Yes. Your tax year started Jan 1, 2011.

Testone....just want to clarify as you said 'yes'..

am i save to assume i DO NOT need to backfile an 8938..just start filing an 8938 starting this tax year (my deadline being june 15th for 2011)?

My tax year befings Jan01 to December 31st of each year.

You do not need to file Form 8938 for the year 2010. Calendar year taxpayers begin filing Form 8938 for 2011. You should attach the Form 8938 to your 2011 Form 1040.
