How to make RRSP tax deferal after tax is done

Post by Jaspal »

I am a Canadian living/working in the US. I filed my first tax in US in 2003 in paper form which included my RRSP account info and declaration to defer my RRSP income.

I filed 2004 tax electronically, and included RRSP accounts info as "foreign accounts". But there was no place/form to re-declare/re-confirm my RRSP income deferal. I understand there is a new form (8891?), but it was not in the commercial tax s/w I used. I will send my "foreign accounts" info to Treasury shortly.

Besides that do I need to anything with IRS? If so, how. Somwhere I read that I should file a revised return. I looked at the form for tax revision, which requires to fill only the changed values. But for me no values have changed, I just need to send additional forms.

Please advise. Thanks. Jaspal

go back on the forum and read the thread on 8891. You have to file 8891 to IRS for each RRSP
