US citizens with wife and kids living in Canada

Post by gailamundsen »

I am living in Canada and have done a small amount of work in the US this year. My husband is living and working in the US. I am under the perception that this year I will need to file a 1040 return and a 2555-EZ as well. Is that it?
And does it make a difference filing married filing jointly or married filing separately?

2555 only applies to wages earned OUTSIDE US, so the wages you describe don't qualify.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best

Well, you will need to file 1040 and tax will ahve to be paid to IRS on the US income, and then credit will be given on your Cdn return.

You have always had to file 1040
