Yet another question about FBARs, taxes and what to do

Post by TooMuchCoffee »

I have been trying to figure out for months now what this means, and I'm afraid I'm not getting any closer to understanding. I"m a dual citizen, and I've lived in Canada for 44 years. I'm 45. Never filed US tax returns, though I always file Canadian returns.

I "caught up" (I think. I hope) this summer - sent in three years of US returns and FBARs going back to 2003.

Should I go back now and send in more US tax returns? Is three enough? I've already sent the FBARs in so there's not much I can do about it now.

There seem to be more and more Canadian newspaper articles on this issue and FBAR penalties, and they are making me very nervous.

I thought I was doing the right thing by sending them in but now..I don't know. No taking it back though. Is there anything else I should look into doing? What happens now?
