Form 8891

Post by dogwood »

In 2009, we transferred some of our RRSPs to new RRSP accounts. I submitted the 8891s for the new accounts and did not report the old accounts. We elected Article XVII in 2002 under the old account names....

Should I have filed 8891s for the old accounts last year (and given them a zero balance and the word TRANSFER on top) as well as the 8891s for the new accounts....

If so, can I refile them for last year?

Thks.

Yes, and yes.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best

Thks for your answer.

Can I just send in the amended 8891s or do I have to send in an amended 1040 along with the 8891s?

A question for 8891 filing with 1040x:

Is it ok I just fill in name, social, address and leave the lines blank
and put "back filing form 8891" in Part III explanation part?

Thank you
