I left Canada near the end of 2008 (Dec. 26th) to work in the US (TN status). I didn't actually start work in the US until Jan 12th 2009. I'm not planning on returning to Canada, and I realized I filed my 2008 Canadian return as a resident, and did not file it as a departure return.
For 2009, I have some Canadian investment income that I need to declare. Should I file a departure return, or can I just skip that and file as a non-resident?
Also, for Schedule A - Federal - Statement of World Income, do I need to report employment income from outside of Canada on this form, even if I'm considered a non-resident of Canada? I was under the impression that I don't need to report any non-Canadian income to CRA as a non-resident.
Did not file Canadian departure return for 2008

If you left in 2008, there should be no need to repoert any investment income in Canada for 2009, unles it was realestate or shares from a private unlisted company.
Thta is the whole point of departure return.

After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
