I am working and living in NY on TN since mid 2008. My wife is still working and living in Canada. I am also supporting two sons studying UK & Grenada.
My wife and sons don’t have us SS or tax ID. We are all Canadian Citizens.
My accountant filed 2008 return for me as MFS since I had only small income ($18,000).
I came to know through publication 519 that I can still file jointly with my wife.
Please help me with following
1. Can I file MFJ and claim for my son’s education? This way I get big return
2. How can I get SS for my wife? She had TD till Jan 12, 2010 but could not get beyond that. She stayed couple of month with me in 2009 &2010
3. Do I need any Tax ID for my sons and if so how to get it? Both my son also stayed with me more than a month in 2009 & 2010. They have my home as permanent address in their records.
Thanks

Thanks nelsona,
On inquiring I found that last year my tax consultant filed a wrong return MFS and also did not report my Canadian income. Also I did not file Departure return in Canada,
Can I do it now?
I have already applied for automatic extension 4868 & IT-370
