ESPP employee discount from unsold US stock

Post by zad886 »

Hi,

US Citizen and Canadian resident [employer is a wholly owned subsidiary of a US company]

Based on what I've read so far, the employee discount portion of an ESPP is included in Canada as income and is taxable on the year it was exercised. What happens then when I sell the stock in the future? Will I receive a tax document from the US wherein I will have to declare the same employee discount as income in my 1040? How am I to avoid double taxation of the same income? Should I include this as part of FEIE for the year it was taxed in Canada?
