Is Income outside US eligible for IRA contribution

Post by Livonian »

Spouse on dependent visa here but has Canada income in prior months. Is this income eligible for any IRA contribution prior to April 15 for current year for 1040?
If yes, what are the income limits or max amounts?

Your spouse is eligible to contribute based on YOUR wages (I presume you made at least $10,000 this year), so her other income doesn't matter.

$5000, but it may not be deductible if your income is too high. You're using software and can type irs.gov. These are not cross-border issues.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
