Departure from Canada.

Post by rg1495 »

Hello,
I left Canada in Aug 2007 and moved to US. However, I did not notify CRA. I filed the 2007 taxes as if I was a canadian resident and did not put in any departure date. For 2008, I don't intend to file taxes in Canada. How do I notify CRA about my departure?....What date should I tell them about my departure ?.....I read in another thread that using Jan 1st makes CRA suspicious.

Any help would be much appreciated.

That is correect, you should have filed correctly in 2007.

I've consistently advised not to fake Cdn residency. It simply isn't worth the hassle later.

You should correct your 2007 filing.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
