Non-resident CDN report foreign income?

Post by blodwynn »

Hi,
I left Canada on June 4th, 2007 to work on a TN visa in the U.S. I consider myself a nonresident of Canada for all the reasons listed on CRA's site. I'm trying to complete my CDN tax return using Quicktax but they do not allow me to enter "departing resident' only 'resident' or 'non'. They ask me to enter a 'foreign slip' and 'world income'.

A. Which do I select? Resident or Nonresident or is there another way to select departing resident?
B. Do I enter my income and/or taxes paid from the U.S. anywhere at all on my return?
C. Is world income to be reported only if you are a resident of CDA? Should I fill this out?

Any help is much appreciated I've always had someone do my taxes for me and I'm totally lost.

thanks in advance

You are a departing resident of the province you were last in. Read the emigrants guide from CRA.

All other aspects are purely mechanical.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best

You enter resident, with a departure date, and the s/w will figure rest tout.

Thanks a million!

The info I found on this site was extremely helpful in getting my return complete.
As per your advice, I did find Ufile more helpful with my situation when it comes to filing as a departing resident.

Quicktax online version does not support the emigrant date entry, but Quick tax download version does support emigratn date entry. Well, the good news is you done with Ufile....
