1116/8891 and TDF90-22.1 Questions

Post by mel0526 »

Hi,

I'm on TN visa and I feel a 1040 tax report this year and nothing in Canada except a check, I will send them for tax on T5 (interest).

I have those questions to finish my tax report, I hope someone can help me.

1. Form 1116: I choose to report this year my tax of 10% on my T5 that I will send to Canada. Just to confirm it will be "Passive Category Income" and "Accrued"?

2. Form 8891: A REER is a RRSP or RRIF?

3. Form 8891: Do "distributions" is the interest earned on the REER? And why they ask the plan balance?

4. Form TDF90-22.1: I have one bank account with link to a placement (no number for the placement) and to my REER. (have a number on my quartely paper). Do I fill only one section for that account or it need a separate section for the REER,the placement and the account itself? Also do I give them the full number of the account like shown on the check (routing + account number)?

For 2008: Can I participate to 401K at my work to have to pay less tax in 2008?

Thanks you,
Melanie

As I have often said, I'm not going to answer mechanical questions on your tax filing, its too late for that.

Un REER is an RRSP

8891 questions have all been answered elsewhere.

You could have participated in 401(k) the instant you started working in US.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
