Canadian citizen in US

Post by circa »

For a canadian nonresident for tax year 2007 with only US income for that year but additional Universal child care from canada for 2007. Help needed for filing canadian tax return for 2007 as a nonresident. Any good software if Ufile or quicktax work for nonresident tax return.
Thanks

Ufile works fine. As a non-resiedent you should not be collecting benefits from canada. Be prepared to repay. If you left Canada in 2007, you are an EMIGRANT for that year. Follow the rules in the CRA emigrant guide.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best

Thanks a lot nelsona. Do we do a join return?
we left canada in 2006 and our 2006 return we did as an EMIGRANT.
2007 we received only National child benefit. we have to do a nonresident 2007 return only if we would like to continue receiving this child care benefit. Do we have to show the US income in the world income. At some point i thought for non residents retun one has to show only the canadian income and that is the funds we received for national child benefit. A 2007 return as to be filed only if we are interested in continuing receiving child care benefit. I don't think the US income would have to be world income for 2007 return then.
Hope I'm right? Help appreciated

Unless your husband works for the Cdnb government in US, you are NOT entitled to this benefit. This is clear in the Emigrant guide.

This is also clearly spelled out in all guides related to the Universal benefit.
