It should be W-9.

I hear there are literally 1000's of banks in the US.

Find one that doesn't argue with its customers.

I am in the US on tn1 visa working for a us company. I have RRSP investment in canada. After I moved to US, fund manager is asking me to filled out w-9 or w8ben. I guess it should be W-9 because my income is connected with a business in the US.

You use W-9, not because your income is from US business (RRSP income is obviously not from US business). You use W-9 because you reside in US

Hi, I try to communicate with the bank. Their response is below. Any idea where are they getting 2.5 years from?

"Here is the W9 form you requested, you would fill this form out if you have been present in the US for 2.5 years consecutively, otherwise you would still be filling out the W8."
