TDF 90-22.1 Question

Post by cantousa »

On the TDF 90-22.1 form, Box 26 "Does the filer have a financial interest in this account" -

The account in question is a joint investment account I have with my wife in Canada. I am not clear on the differece between financial interest vs signature authority. The account is set up such that we both (or the survivor in case one of us were to pass away) need to sign to sell anything in the account. So I we both have signature authority on the account. Now what is having financial interest? Of course we have financial interest in the account, wouldn't we? considering it is our account...

Thanks.

Report the account. You should be submitting 3 TD forms, 1 with all your personal accounts, one with your wife's personal accounts (if she is filing her 1040 with you) and one with alll your joint accounts.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
