I deduct the home office expenses on my Canadian return, but am curious if there is any point to including home office expenses on my US return since I'm excluding income as a bona fide resident. If a USC is approved for PR, but wants to take 10 to 12 months to pack/clear up their home and put all their financial affairs in order, can they choose CDN residency to start when they permanently move even if they "land" in CAN to clear immigration (and get PR card) much earlier?

When the treaty is involved do we not have the option of declaring to file as a Deemed NonResident (T1 - Schedule D) for the whole year (assuming in US >183 days)? If so, is there any consideration that would make DNR a bad idea?

I'm curious about Nov 1 as the start of Cdn Res vs the arrival date Oct 15. The tax form appears to have a place for arrival date. Does the CRA see the Oct 15 and determine Nov 1 as the Res date? Zeroing of gain should be as of which date?
