I will agree with Nelsona, option "3" is probably the best one...and as pointed out, filing only 3 years will not fly as you need the 5 (6) years of returns in order to expatriate.
when I started this mess 2 years ago...I backfiled to year 2005, sent 6 years of FBARs in with a reasonable cause ...

Clearly advising you to place your pre-October (non-US income) on the 1040NR is a mistake, I can only assume this was a fumble in wording alone.

The beauty of your situation is that you DID file a tax return for 2009....all you would be doing is amending it with a 1040X...and the fact that you did not owe any tax for that year eliminates any discussion for penalties or fines on interest owing...which there is not.
