A question for 8891 filing with 1040x:

Is it ok I just fill in name, social, address and leave the lines blank
and put "back filing form 8891" in Part III explanation part?

Thank you

I think you will be fine. i do not think they will charge you for not reporting RRSP. I did not know anything about 8891 and TD F 90 until several days ago. I asked my Canadian friends and they've never heard it either.

The 8891 was from 2008. I was told RRSP is no longer required to report in TD F90. But it does not hurt just reporting it in TD F 90.

Form 8891 is not handled by the group handles TD F90. I do not think you need to file TD F 90 for RRSP. I called 800-800-2877, option 2 and was told RRSP is not required to report in TD F 90 form. You can call to confirm.

Thanks for sharing the story. I only have recent statements. Can CRA provide a letter to you to prove that you have not cashed any RRSP?

sorry I did not write down the ID#. But the IRS person who answered my phone call sounds very knowledgeable and knew 8891 very well. I was finally transferred to her as nobody knew much about 8891. I know a couple of people who recently called IRS about 8891 and got same answers as I got. Maybe you ...

1. I called IRS at 1-800-829-1040 and asked about form 8891. I was told as an owner of RRSP, I am the Annuitant. An Annuitant only files form 8891 when receiving a distribution. So there is no need for the annuitant to files 8891 when there is no distribution because of the automatic exemption given...
