Tax between states

Hello!

I have a question about filing for tax between states for my brother and I.

- In my situation: I moved to a new job in another state at the very end of 2015 (December 30, 2015). However, in 2016 I received the bonus payment for work I did in 2015 with the old employer. While I will file ...

Canadian Non-Resident - Need to keep filing?

Hello,

Once you leave Canada permanently, file the NR73 and report your departure date in the T1, do you still need to file the T1 for non-resident form in future years?

A person at HR block told me that I do not need to file any forms in future years until I come back to Canada and become a ...

Thanks nelsona.

I talked to HR again (this time a more experienced person), and she said that I would have to pay FICA on the bonus, even if it's a separate paycheck and for the period I was on OPT.

Actually, I just checked and saw that my bonus was in a separate paycheck. I received a paycheck for my biweekly pay, and an additional paycheck for my bonus.

I see... so I need HR to explicitly point out that the bonus is for the OPT period in order for FICA to not be deducted?

Thank you!

F1 / H1B transition and bonus treatment

Hello,

I have a question about the treatment of bonuses for a F1 to H1B transition.

My F1 OPT began on June 2011 and ended June 2012, at which point I transferred to a H1-B visa. During my F1 OPT period, I did not have to pay FICA or medicare. I was also paid a bonus in August 2012 for my period ...

Hello,

I spoke with a co-worker and she mentioned that Relocation Allowances given at the beginning of employment is tax exempt? (I am currently on F1/H1B) if it makes any difference.

Furthermore, I was told that rent and living expenses while I am on F1 visa are also tax deductible?

Thanks in ...

Thanks Nelsona,

Would you mind elaborating a little on how to bring marginal tax down to 15% on a 100K/yr salary with 401K? Isn't the contribution limit 16K?

Thanks again!
