Forgot to add: The RC66SCH Status in Canada / Statement of Income form (Part D) requires reporting of income from "January 1 to the date you both became residents in that year". Is this just a statement OR does this have any implications for reporting on our 2008 Canadian income tax return...

I'm confused. I thought any 401K withdrawal I took ON or AFTER January 1st would be subject to Canadian tax for the 2008 year, even if I withdrew the 401K money BEFORE becoming a Canadian resident. I assume I would report this 401K withdrawal as INCOME on a 1040 NR for 2008 tax year BUT would need t...

I will leave my employers in late December and I will not be working for any employer in the US in 2008. I will start my employment in Ca...

Hi: My wife and I have lived in the US for 6 years now. We owned property here (which is now sold) and had an H1B visa. We are planning to move back to Canada in 3-6 months. The ONLY ties to Canada would be my membership with a professional organization in Canada and disability insurance through a C...

This whole arguement came about from advice I received from an accountant specializing in US/Canada tax law who would have prepared my dual returns in this favorable way to reduce taxation in both countries. I wondered if what he was suggesting was "legal" since all other information I rec...

Best time of the year to return to Canada

Hi: I am a Canadian citizen who has lived in the US for 7 years now on TN status and am contemplating a permanent return to Canada. I have heard from one source that the overall tax liability can be reduced by planning repatriation in the middle of the calendar year. It works by reducing taxes payab...
