Worked in US with TN, now back in Canada

Post by gadking »

Hi everyone, I have a question concerning my taxes for 2014.

I am a Canadian citizen, I moved to the US in August 2012 with a TN Visa, and came back to Canada on September 2014 after finding a new job in Canada. In 2012, I paid taxes to both country. In 2013, I paid taxes to US only since I was a non-resident for tax purposes in Canada. Now, I'm not sure what to do for 2014. I lived more than 183 days in the US, but now I'm back in Canada and have a job here.

Is is the same process as 2012, where I declare to both countries and can get a tax credit from my US earnings? Or since I was a non-resident for tax purposes for the first 8 months of 2014, can I just file regular tax forms to both countries (ie. I don't declare US earnings to Canada)? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
