Hi,
Just want to make sure on my situation:
Became a US resident (green card) on Aug. 24, 2012 and worked from mid-september to end of 2012 in the US.
Before (Jan. 2012 to Aug. 24, 2012) lived in Canada and worked in Canada.
Am I eligible for the exclusion and use 2555?
Thanks a lot.

Yes, but only on Cdn wages earned before august 24, 2012 and only if, in the year between aug 24, 2011 and aug 24, 2012, you spent less than 36 days in US.
Otherwise, you will either have to use 1116 to take credit for your Cdn taxes, or you may have to forego full-year 1040, and file dual-status, in which case you would not report the pre-august Cdn income at all.
its your choice.

After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
