Reporting HSA for Canadian tax return

Post by dorins »

Hi Nelsona!

Cdn resident/US resident commuter, working in MI, living in Windsor ON:

1) Worked for a company in 2011 which offered HSA.
I received a 1099-SA showing the HSA amount
2) My W-2 shows entries in box 12 marked with "C" and "W".

How/where do all these get reported to Canada?

Thank you very much.
Cheers

Unless you revceived a taxable distribution from your HSA (ie. you recieved money from HSA which was NOT for eligible expenses), you have nothing to report in either country.

Since the 'C' portion of your W-2 is already included in your wages, there is nothing to do with this box, nor do you need to report anything about 'W' - employer contribs to your plan, in either country.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
