This is our main tax information forum which deals with topics concerning Canadians living and working in the U.S., U.S. citizens contemplating working in Canada, and all aspects of Canadian and U.S. income tax and related adminstrative issues.
Hi! I'm a Canadian citizen that's going to be working in the States for more than 183 days on a TN visa this year. I have a downpayment on two different condos that will be closing around 2019/2020 in Canada. They will be used as rental property. Does this count as a tie to Canada for the tax year of 2018? Will there be any implications when I need to file for nonresidency?
Residency is determined on a date not by year
As soon as you leave and begin to wirk and live in US that is your departure date
Rental property is not a residential tie
