2017 Taxes now that I'm CDN NR & US PR

Post by Southern »

Hello again,

One year later and I'd like to ensure that my plan for 2017 is correct

In 2016 I filled as an emigrant from Canada.

During 2017 I:
Sold my principal residence in Canada (got certificate of compliance...)
Received a small amount of EI based on a recalculation of 2016, no tax withheld
Received Canadian dividend income reported on an 1099-div with tax withheld
Received a dollar of interest on refund from CRA
Received ~$200 of interest from Canadian bank accounts

For 2017 CRA:
Write CRA a letter with a cheque for 25% of the EI payment which should have been withheld.
Report no income to Canada on tax return.
File a NR return exclusively for the purpose of schedule 3 to report sale of principal residence with no tax owing.

For 2017 1040:
Report all income above (EI, Interest and dividends)
Claim credit for the 25% tax withheld on the 1099-div and the 25% NR EI tax payment referenced above.
Report nothing on sale of Canadian home (IRS publication 523 - Determine whether you need to report the gain from your home)
File 8938 & Fincen with all Canadian accounts
Claim moving costs from 2017

Anything I missed?
