New green card holder - First year tax

Post by vincebouchard »

Hi everyone, I have received my green card in September 2016. I have worked and stayed all 2016 in Ontario Canada until Dec 31. I have now moved permanently in the U.S since January 2017 and quit my Cdn job.
I know that I have to fill out my tax for 2016 in Canada as a Cdn resident. But since I received my GC in September and not moved yet that year, am I a dual resident? Is this a worldwide income? Should I fill a 1040NR? I am confused about which form to fill in the U.S. since I have no income in 2016. How do new GC holder manage the first year transition phase?!
